Types of Buddhism 1.Theravada Buddhism It is considered as the oldest form of Buddhism, it traces its root back o the teaching of the historical Buddha, Sidhartha Gautam. It emphasises personal enlightenment through individual effort, meditation, and moral conduct. They don't believe in any kind of Bodhisattvas or other saint. It is primarily based on the Tipataka which includes Vinaya(monastic rules), sutta(discourses) and abhidarma(philosophical analysis). Its predominantly found in Sri Lanka, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia. 2. Mahayana Buddhism It is said that it emerged around the 1st century CE, incorporating a boarder interpreting of the Buddha’s teaching. They emphasis the Bodhisattva level, an individual who seek enlightenment not for themselves but for all beings.
